Our story

Celebrating our roots, passing them on

Why families are bringing Ram Leela to Collingwood — and what a living cultural tradition can mean for the next generation.

A heartfelt vision

A few families have come together with a heartfelt vision: to keep our cultural traditions alive and bring ourselves and the next generation closer to the timeless epic of Ramayan. The Ramleela Project grows from that shared wish.

Ram Leela gives that wish a living form. Through a theatrical retelling of the Ramayana, a story familiar to many parents becomes something children can encounter together — not only as words on a page, but as an experience shared with family and neighbours.

A story that invites conversation

The Ramayana opens conversations about courage, devotion, responsibility and the choices we make when doing the right thing is difficult. Different generations can find different questions in the same story. That is part of what keeps it alive.

Our hope is to bring families closer to those conversations while welcoming anyone who is curious about the tradition. You do not need to know the epic already to join the celebration.

Come celebrate with us

On Saturday, November 7, 2026, we invite families, friends and the wider community to Simcoe Street Theatre in Collingwood, from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Entry is free and seats are limited.

Come celebrate our roots and help us pass them on.
